- Dr. Alex Wykes is a Research Associate in the Molecular Neurobiology Research Group, School of Medical Sciences at the University of Sydney and Kids Research, Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Prior to this, he undertook undergraduate studies in medical bioscience at Monash University and completed his Honours and PhD candidature in biochemistry and molecular neuroscience at the University of Melbourne and Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health.
Building on over a decade of experience in medical research, Dr. Wykes is currently focused on addressing the urgent need for effective therapeutic options to treat Rett syndrome and related genetic neurodevelopmental disorders. He leads translational research projects toward the development of novel viral vector-based gene therapies and gene editing approaches, as well as efforts to identify blood-based biomarkers for clinical applications.
